Eco-Cathedral

St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral is an Eco-Cathedral.  We stand in awe of God's glorious creation, and we are dedicated to being responsible stewards of this creation: to caring for our local environmental, to acting for environmental justice, and recognising and reacting to the climate emergency.

Eco-Congregation

St Mary's Cathedral is an Eco-Congregation, having received a Silver Award from Eco-Congregation Scotland in 2020. This is in response to our work to do a number of things.

A+E

Curated by Jonathan Baxter, A+E asks: how might the Cathedral become an ecological commons for the city and how might that shape a social and ecological art practice?  To that end, we are working collaboratively with a wide range of partners including artists, peer-educators, environmentalists, and the Cathedral’s eco-congregation group.

The Cathedral Grounds

The Cathedral has extensive grounds, which are many things to many people.  They are a green place of calm and rest, in the middle of the busy West End of Edinburgh; a space for play for the many children and young people who go the Cathedral or the nursery in the grounds; a place for prayer, especially in our garden of remembrance; and a place where we put into practice our commitment to ecological issues.
