Free lunchtime recitals every day from 2nd to 31st August, except Sundays and 16th. An opportunity to hear emerging and established artists performing in a wide variety of styles, genres, and instruments.  This long-running series is undoubtedly one of the hidden gems of the Fringe.

Layla Ballard and Archie Bonham | Cello and Piano

  • Martinu - Variations on a Slovak Folksong, H. 378
  • Rachmaninoff - 2 Pieces, Op. 2: Prelude, and Oriental Dance
  • Dvorak - Romantic Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 25, No. 4 (arranged for cello)
  • Bridge - Cello Sonata in D Minor H.125, 1. Allegro ben moderato, 2. Adagio ma non troppo - Molto allegro agitato

Layla Ballard is a 19-year-old cellist from Edinburgh, Scotland. She is currently studying at the Royal College of Music in London with teacher Melissa Phelps where she is the Leverhulme Arts Scholar supported by the Geoffrey Boyes Memorial Scholarship and is also supported by the Dewar Arts Award and the Talent Unlimited Foundation.

Archie Bonham is a pianist based in London. He currently studies for a Masters in Piano Performance at the Royal College of Music with Danny Driver. He greatly enjoys collaborative music-making and works with singers and instrumentalists as much as possible, and is also a full-time member of a piano trio based at the RCM.
